The Future is Local — Why LLMs Should Run on Your Own Machine

The modern web feels like a digital landfill €bloated with SEO bait, ad trackers, and websites that value attention over experience. We’ve accepted this as normal. For example, recipe pages that take 30 seconds to load because someone needed you to scroll past an ad for dish soap.

The good thing is LLMs – which stands for Large Language Models, are changing everything. When I ask ChatGPT a question, I get an answer. Not a maze of popups, cookie banners, and newsletter modals. No tricks, no bait, no tracking. Just clarity. What I personally love is when I ask it a question, it streams the raw text in JSON to my browser which is perfect for periods with slow internet.

And this is only the beginning. Soon, we won’t even need to “browse the web” as often because it will do it for us. The tech is moving fast that local models are getting leaner, more efficient, and more usable on everyday machines. It might not seem like it right now, but this is where it will be in the near future. The future of information access isn’t some branded chat bot on a corporate homepage. It’€™s a personal assistant that runs on your own device, respects your attention, and doesn’t care about your shopping habits. It will fetch the information about a corporation from their website and give it to you simply with links as references if you need to see the page itself. It’s also a lot more accessible this way because people who are sensitive to visual stimulation or can’t read will be able to more effectively request for information without having to use clunky third party tools to navigate poorly designed web pages.

This shift threatens the entire business model of the ad-supported web because it bypasses so much of it. Google knows it. Publishers know it. Everyone who’€™s made a living off of search-based monetization is watching this unfold and they are scrambling because they know it’s all going to change.

As for me? I’m not anti-web.

I am pro-human.

And the current web isn’t built for humans anymore. It’s built for algorithms, ad slots, and engagement metrics. It’s a really dark place right now that just doesn’t respect the user. However, the landscape is changing and we are heading for a new spring season even if it feels like we’re stuck in winter right now.

So here’€™s what I believe:
The next real leap will see websites forced to adapt to LLMs by becoming less reliant on ad revenue. They will need to make it worth the user’s while clicking to view it.

Because ultimately, LLMs will be bringing intelligence home.

Locally. Privately. Simply.

Just the way I like it.
